2014 -2015

One of the most important organizations in contemporary Jewish life is Slingshot, a project which recognizes visionary pro-social initiatives on the American Jewish scene. We're delighted to share the news that the Altamont Bakery is an award winner for the 2014 - 2015 competition. Many organizations vie for this distinction over several years, but the bakery was recognized on its first application. We are now eligible for attention on a much larger scale. Many thanks to our bakers, volunteers, and supporters for bringing us so far in so short a time. For a look at the Slingshot website, click here.

October 2014

The Altamont Bakery is proud to announce that it is the 2014 recipient of the Henry Bellmon Sustainability Award in the category of Quality of Life for All. Only four awards are given each year, and the bakery is now part of a group that includes the Indian Nation Council of Governments and the Cherry Street Farmers' Market Association. We are deeply pleased that Bellmon judges saw the value of our work with the intermittently homeless mentally ill and recognized our efforts before hundreds of guests at the annual awards gala in October. This is the only award in its class in Oklahoma and represents a new attainment for us in the area of sustainability. Many thanks to the community of the Altamont Bakery, its philanthropic supporters, and its customers.

It's Spring, 2014, and the Altamont Bakery is pleased to introduce a third cookie to round out its current product line. We're baking Sugartops: superb, buttery cookies crusted with baker's sugar and bursting with flavor. Look for them wherever our cookies are sold and give us a call at 918.583.7121 if you'd like to place an order. They make spectacular holiday gifts in December and bring pleasure to the person you love on February 14.

Altamont cookies are synonymous with chocolate chips, but as of January 2013, we're baking Oatmeal Raisin Jumbles! They're moist, beautiful cookies with the same heft and size of our Chocolate Chipper. Big enough for two snacks, but flavor enough for a whole day!

Look for our Oatmeal Raisin Jumbles in  hand-sealed cellophane packages with a black label to distinguish them from the other cookies in our line. Come by the Synagogue for a sample purchase, or look for Jumbles wherever Altamont cookies are sold.

We're super-proud to announce that the Altamont Bakery was chosen to represent the State of Oklahoma at the National Governor's Convention in February 2013. We shipped dozens of cookies to Washington, D.C. at the behest of the organizers, and we hope that the governors enjoyed our gift.

The focus of the conference was on disabilities, and including differently-abled citizens in the public life of each of the fifty states. Because our bakery is a model project for the dignified employment for formerly homeless mentally ill residents of Tulsa, we were a natural fit for the conference.

Please remember that each cookie we sell has no other purpose in life than to delight the buyer and provide a ladder of upward mobility for our fellow citizens. We appreciate your patronage!
